Group Rides

When they take place

  • Sundays
  • Thursday evenings April until September
  • Ad-hoc rides arranged via Whatsapp.
  • Chain gangs (click here)

Please check our Facebook or Member Whatsapp group page for start time details, routes and updates.  If you are not already a member, you can ride with us twice before joining.  Most start from Droitwich Lido Car Park.

Why take part?

Joining a Droitwich Cycling Club  group ride can be a great experience for a lot of reasons—whether you’re local, new to the area, or just getting into cycling. Here are some solid reasons to give it a go.  We have different speeds and distances on offer.  Sunday group and ad-hoc rides often include a cafe stop mid-way.

If you are new to group riding, please watch the videos below.  We will happily provide you with support on the day too, so please make your self known to the ride leader on the day.

  • Build fitness and improve your riding: Group rides push your pace in a fun way—without feeling like a solo workout. You’ll learn how to ride more efficiently, especially in a peloton (drafting, pacing, etc.).
  • Sharpen Your Bike Handling Skills: Learn to ride smoothly in close proximity to others.
  • Explore New Routes: Discover scenic routes that you might not find on your own. The club often mixes it up with flat spins, hilly rides, and café stop.
  • Social & Supportive Atmosphere: Post-ride café culture is strong—expect a coffee and a cake or two! You’ll meet a welcoming community that makes cycling more fun and less intimidating.
  • Motivation & Accountability: It’s easier to commit to regular rides when you’ve got a crew expecting you.  You’ll stay more consistent and motivated over time.

  • Safety in Numbers: Riding in a group can be safer: better visibility to cars, help if you have a mechanical or puncture, and instant support if anything goes wrong.

Important stuff to know before you ride

Please take some time to read our guidance on riding safely in groups. It is useful for novice group riders, prospective ride leaders or those us that are a bit rusty.

Group riding skill are essential for this type of ride

  • Hold a good line
  • Shout warnings about oncoming hazards
  • Repeat hazard shouts through the group
  • Don’t do anything sudden and unpredictable
  • Always shout if you need to make a sudden stop
  • Bring front and rear lights for poor evening light
  • Rear lights should be set on continuous
  • Avoid half wheeling
  • Aero bars are a definite ‘no’
  • Helmets are required

Please think about helping us with this critical role. If you have got to grips with group rides and would like to support the club, please feel free to volunteer.
