No expensive fees, no headline sponsors, no goodie bags, no numbers, no gold standard times, no broom wagons and no pretending at the finish to have looked into the jaws of hell and survived. Participants cycle a long distance within set time limits with success measured in completion rather than speed.

Several hundred audaxes take place across the UK each year.  We operate two calendar events and one permanent audax rideable at any time of th eye.  The first event of the calendar year is Hay and Part Time Skivers.  We have yet to fix a date for 2023.  Our second event is Salinae and Cotswold scheduled for 12th November 2022 (see below).

Upcoming Audax Events

Droitwich Cycling Club are pleased to be hosting this 200km audax event for a third year running.

The event began as a no thrills event by a brand new embryonic cycling club but it prove so popular, it will be making a return in 2023 with a cake enticing finish for riders with tired legs.  Early November means crisp mornings and full autumnal colours, so what a better way to enjoy the Cotwolds in their full glory.  The first and final quarters of the route are fairy gentle going outbound via Worcestershire and a return through Warwickshire.  The half crosses the undulating Cotswolds through picturesque villages and charming countryside but be warned, to gain the Cotswold Plateau, an assault up the Suddeley Bank is required!

The excellent Lido Cafe in Droitwich have provisionally agreed to open early for riders at the start, though we won’t recommend that you take an early morning dip in the salty open air lido pool before you start.  The event will finish in the nearby Rotary House where food and light refreshments will be available. The ‘control towns’ along the route are all furnished with cafes and shops for refreshment stops, with Witney being the most popular for gorging cake.

Start: Droitwich Lido;

Finish: Rotary House, Droitwich.

Control Locations: Tewkesbury; Witney; Shipston-on-Stour

Information Control Locations:  Winchcombe; Shutford

Overall Ascent: 2,900m

We welcome experienced and newbie audaxers to enter the event but will you obviously need some ooommph in your legs to complete the journey. You don’t have to be a Droitwich CC or Audax UK member to enter. For non-members, a ‘day AUK membership fee’ is added to your entry cost when entering the event.   Come along and enjoy the day.  It is a great way to test yourself on a long distance ride without any pressure to race.

Permanent Audax

The South Shropshire Hills permanent uses the same route as our spring time ‘Part Time Skivers’ audax.

It’s a fantastic route and great for people who like the scenery of hilly Shropshire. It nominally starts in Bewdley and heads for Ludlow via Clee Hill. Then it is off northwards through the Stretton Hills to Church Stretton for further cafes before swinging backward through the col between Lawley and Caer Caradoc and a second passage over Wenlock Edge, eventually returning to Bewdley.

Permanent events must be entered well in advance of the intended date, though your actual ride is fairly flexible.  Like a normal audax, you will need to collect proofs of passage on the way by collecting receipts at control locations, use of GPX track or by using the popular e-brevet phone app.  Details on the route including route sheets, GPX, brevet card or e-brevet will be provided to the rider in advance.

You can ride the route anytime you want with the exception of the day of the Part Time Skivers Event.
